5000 BCE: A Little Global Warming

A natural warming period heats the valley and the rest of the continent. Over centuries, tree species typical of more southerly areas such as white oak, advance northward and take over the hills. Only a few isolated stands of white oak growing on south-facing, sunny slopes will survive the cooler climate of the future.
