1500: The Birth of a Cedar

In the mid-1500s, Jacques Cartier learns from the native people how to use eastern white cedar or Arbor-vitae — the tree of life — to treat scurvy. Since this is a species with a long lifespan, it is feasible that cedars germinated during Cartier's visits to North America could still be alive in the Little Bonnechere's watershed five centuries later.
